In 2011, Forward Metals sponsored Andrew Cowan for his A Level - Systems Control Coursework project. Andrew went on to design and build a search and rescue robot designed to work in disaster zones.
The robot features a wireless camera, wireless sensors, radio links, lights, sirens & a water cannon. Despite the robot weighing around 80 kg, it is powerful enough to pull a car.
Andrew and his robot won "Young Engineer of the Year" and received his award from Professor Brian Cox, Kate Bellingham & Professor John Beddington.
Andrew was really grateful for the sponsorship he received from forward metals.
He said "I'm still very grateful to Forward Metals for their support, as I wouldn't have been able to do the project without the help of its sponsors!"
